Turn your Letterboxd history into a ranked list.
Export your data from letterboxd.com, choose the ZIP in Ranked on your iPhone, then rank your films head-to-head. Your stars don’t carry over. Ranked brings in what you’ve watched, and your list earns the scores. Import once, then rank at your own pace.
Step by step
- Open Letterboxd in Safari. The Letterboxd app can’t export, so open letterboxd.com/settings/data in Safari and sign in.
- Export your data. Tap Export your data. Letterboxd saves a ZIP to Files › Downloads.
- Choose it in Ranked. Open You › Settings › Find what you’ve watched, choose Letterboxd, then Choose your export, and pick the ZIP as it is.
- Keep using the app. Ranked looks up each film in the background and shows how far it has got. Films it is sure of are ready to rank straight away.
- Rank them. Your films wait under From your history in Discover and in Rapid Ranked. Tap up to 10 you’ve seen, give each a lane, then answer a few head-to-heads.
What comes over
- Films you’ve watched. Your watched films, diary, ratings and reviews files all count as watched. A rewatch is still one film.
- Your watchlist, if you want it. Ranked asks first, then saves those films to your Ranked watchlist. They are never marked as watched.
- Your reviews. When you place a film you reviewed on Letterboxd, your review is ready to use for why it sits where it does.
- Not your stars. Star ratings are never read. A place on your list is earned in head-to-heads.
Why your stars stay behind
Four stars can mean anything. Two films you gave four stars might be miles apart, and nobody can say which is better from the number alone. Ranked asks the easier question: this one or that one? A film’s place within its lane becomes its score, and scores switch on once 10 films are on your list.
Netflix and IMDb work the same way
Ranked can bring in your Letterboxd, Netflix or IMDb history, and the same title from two services becomes one.
- Netflix: open netflix.com/viewingactivity in Safari, pick your profile, scroll to the bottom and tap Download all. Episodes come in as their show.
- IMDb: open imdb.com/list/ratings in Safari, tap Export, then download the file from Your exports. Your IMDb ratings help find what you’ve watched; they don’t become Ranked scores.

Questions
- Do my Letterboxd stars become Ranked scores?
- No. Ranked never reads your star ratings. It brings over the films you’ve watched, and you place each one with a lane and a few head-to-heads. Your list earns its scores.
- Does Ranked sign in to my Letterboxd account?
- No. You download your own export from letterboxd.com and choose the file. No password, account link or scraping is involved.
- What if Ranked matches the wrong film?
- Anything Ranked isn’t sure of waits under Choose the right title, with its best guess. Tap Yes, pick another title, or say you didn’t watch it.
- Can I import again later?
- Yes. Choose a newer export and only the films that are new come in. Nothing is added twice.
- Where is my imported history kept?
- On your iPhone. Nothing is ranked or posted until you place it, and the import is removed when you sign out or delete your account.
- Can I undo an import?
- Yes. Remove Letterboxd import clears the films only that export brought in. Films you’ve already ranked stay on your list.
Bring your history. Rank what you’ve seen.
